Effective 1/1/2017 for prescription refills related to the treatment of ADD or ADHD

In order to effectively monitor your child’s condition and maximize his or her medical therapy, we require yearly physical examinations, as well as intermittent office visits to evaluate progress. The frequency of these visits depends on the diagnosis, as well as on the prescribed medication. In addition, certain medications also require monitoring of lab work. In most cases, appointments are required one month after starting a new medication, and every three months for follow up visits. In accordance with insurance guidelines and current quality standards, Pediatric Health & Wellness requires medication-monitoring office visits every three months for patients who are prescribed controlled substances. One of these visits may be combined with a complete physical exam each year. Patients requiring frequent prescription adjustments will need to be seen more often. Between appointments we will be able to refill the prescriptions on a monthly basis. The parent will need to phone the office 5 working days before the refill is needed to request a refill. The prescription will be ready within 5 working days. Due to federal and state laws, controlled substances such as Ritalin, Concerta, Adderall, Dexedrine, certain pain medications, etc. cannot be refilled by telephone. These medications must be prescribed on a written prescription or an electronic and can only be dispensed 30 days at a time with no refills. The parent will have to pick up the paper prescription as the laws prohibit us from mailing them. We cannot give a controlled substance prescription to any other individual without written permission from the patient or parent. Any individual picking up the prescription on behalf of the patient will be required to show some form of ID.

ADD prescription refill instructions:

We ask that you follow our office procedure allowing us to receive the proper information and notice to issue the refill prescription.

  • 1. Please call at least 5 working days before you need a prescription refill. Your child’s prescription for a 30-day supply will be ready within five working days. If there is a problem with your child’s present dosage, please schedule an appointment with Dr. Skiles.
  • 2. You must provide all of the information that is required to process your request. Required information is listed on the second page of this policy. It is suggested that you write the information in the blanks that are provided so you will be able to read it over the phone in the order that we have it listed.
