Reiki is a 200 year old energy practice from Japan which promotes deep relaxation by accessing Universal Life Force energy. Modern discoveries in neuroscience and somatic psychology support its claims that gentle touch at certain points on the head, torso, knees and feet helps promote a calmer nervous system.

Reiki is a three-tiered system of learning.

Reiki 1 is an introduction to awareness of energy or life force, learning practices to help ground and calm the nervous system. The goal is to first direct healing towards oneself. In so doing, we create in ourselves an optimal attitude towards and an ethical approach to consider offering healing energy and intention towards another. In Reiki 1 we learn the hand positions and specific Reiki principles to practice on a regular basis that promote our own well-being and act as stress reduction, grounding, clearing, and centering tools. Reiki principles and self-care practices are genuinely helpful no matter our profession and can be integrated into all our interactions with others. At this level, we can improve how we feel in our own bodies, soothe our own nervous system, and feel more grounded as a human.

Reiki 2 takes the practices and principles to the level where one can cleanly, ethically, and appropriately offer healing presence and support to another person. In level 2 we learn how to prepare for sessions, how to maintain healthy boundaries, and how to be a supportive presence without taking on others' energies. In this level, with consent, we practice on classmates, friends, and family.

Reiki 3 deepens the commitment to the practices and principles in Reiki 2: maintaining daily energy hygiene practices, excellent boundary practices, and further contemplates the concept of healing in general. Practice will be on volunteers who you may or may not know and you will learn the details required in order to practice Reiki as a professional.

Note; Reiki is never a substitute for professional medical or psychological treatment. It is simply a beautiful complementary way to help settle the nervous system so that the body's own healing abilities are supported to engage. We will talk about how modern neuroscience and Somatic and Energy Psychology correlate with Reiki.
