Notification and Acknowledgement of Credit Card Risk
Dear Valued Patient:
As part of Governor Hochul’s Fiscal Year 2025 Budget, another consumer protection law was enacted that regulates the use of credit cards for the payment of healthcare services. The new law requires that we notify our patients in advance about the risks of paying for medical services with a credit card. By using a credit card to pay for your healthcare you will be forgoing state and federal protections regarding medical debt.
The information in this notice summarizes the changes to the existing law that became effective on October 20, 2024. Please refer to New York General Business Law Section 519-a for more information.
Each time a credit card is used to pay for services, you must be notified of the risks of paying for medical services with a credit card, including:
