EGD Instruction Sheet

RMC Centralized Scheduling will call you the day before your procedure to notify you of any copays or deductibles.

If you have not heard from them by 4 pm the day before please call 256-235-5141. Then option 2 and 2 GI Lab will call you the day before to give you your arrival time. If you have not heard from them by 1 pm the day before please call 256-235-5962.

EGD, ENDOSCOPY, ERCP, SCLEROTHERAPY:

• Nothing to eat or drink after midnight.
• Take your usual medication for blood pressure, heart, lungs/breathing, or seizures the morning of the procedure with a sip of water.
• Do not take any other medications unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
• Bring a current daily medication list, driver’s license, and insurance cards with you.  Leave all your valuables at home, including all body piercings.
• You may wear cotton underpants (except for colonoscopy or flexible sigmoidoscopy) and cotton socks during your test. All nylon undergarments must be removed.
• You must bring someone to drive you home after the procedure (you will be given sedation).
• You will need to remove dentures or partials, contact lenses, and glasses before your test.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS APPLY FOR ALL PROCEDURES:

• If you are a diabetic, do not take your insulin or other diabetic medication the day of your test unless specifically ordered by your physician. Please bring this medication with you.

SHOULD YOU NEED TO CANCEL YOUR PROCEDURE, PLEASE NOTIFY OUR OFFICE 256-237-1001 AND LEAVE A MESSAGE WITH THE ANSWERING SERVICE IF AFTER HOURS.

If you need to cancel or reschedule please give 72 hours’ notice, if not and you do not show a $200 fee will be charged to your account.
