Patient Prep Instructions for Capsule Endoscopy

Capsule Appointment:

6:45 AM 8:00 AM

DO NOT TAKE IRON PILLS FOR 7 DAYS BEFORE PROCEDURE, DO NOT TAKE ANY MEDICATION THE MORNING OF THE PROCEDURE.

Purchase at least 153 grams of MiraLAX , and 2 Dulcolax tablets Gatorade no red or purple colors.

Two Days before the procedure take Two capfuls of MiraLAX in 8oz of water after supper, this will start a clear liquid diet until after the procedure.

DAY before procedure: Mix two capfuls of MiraLAX in 8 oz of water first thing in the morning.

Take two Dulcolax tablets at 6 pm the night before the procedure.

NOTHING TO EAT OR DRINK AFTER 10 PM THE NIGHT BEFORE THE PROCEDURE

Important Patient Information

For best results strictly follow the instructions. The capsule will typically take 8 – 48 hours to pass. If you haven’t passed the capsule at 72 hours after ingestion, call the GI Lab.
To avoid a repeat of the study please adhere to your retrieval instructions until capsule is retrieved. Continue to use the retrieval pan until the capsule is retrieved.
Return the capsule ASAP in the vial provided in the retrieval kit to the GI Lab during normal business hours.
